Valzaar contains a fixed dosage of Valsartan, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, which is used to manage hypertension in individuals with elevated blood pressure who are at an increased risk of cardiovascular issues, in order to help prevent strokes and heart attacks.
Valzaar is utilized for treating hypertension, characterized by high blood pressure at rest. While it often presents with no additional symptoms, high blood pressure raises the likelihood of cardiovascular disease. Valzaar works by lowering blood pressure to normal resting levels, aiding the heart in functioning more effectively, alleviating shortness of breath during physical activity, and enhancing overall life expectancy. It is also prescribed for patients with heart failure and those who have experienced a heart attack, to improve survival rates and minimize further heart damage.
You should take your Valzaar with a glass of water, either with or without food, once daily at the same time every day. Although Valzaar can help regulate your blood pressure, it does not provide a cure, so it is important to continue taking it as long as your doctor advises to maintain blood pressure within normal limits.
The most frequently reported side effects of Valzaar include: viral infections and upper respiratory infections such as sinusitis or pharyngitis, dizziness, cough, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headaches, fatigue, back pain, nausea, and changes in blood salt levels.
You should refrain from using Valzaar if you: are allergic to valsartan or any of the ingredients in Valzaar; have an allergy to sulphonamides; are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding; have liver or kidney issues; or are taking medications that could interact with Valzaar, including: other antihypertensives, diuretics such as furosemide, potassium-sparing diuretics like spironolactone, potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes, corticosteroids like prednisone, cimetidine for ulcers, sulfonylurea diabetic medications like glibenclamide, lithium for mood swings, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Various medications interact with Valzaar and should either be avoided while you are taking Valzaar or used only after consulting with your doctor: medications that enhance side effects include other antihypertensives and diuretics such as furosemide; medications that impact Valzaar include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, cimetidine for ulcers, and sulfonylurea diabetic medications like glibenclamide; medications affected by Valzaar include potassium-sparing diuretics like spironolactone, potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes, and lithium for mood swings.
You should keep your Valzaar in their blister packs until you're ready to use them, and store them below 30°C in a cool, dry location.
